How the Makers Club Works

One of the best things about The Makers Club is that it’s super easy to use. It’s designed so that a total beginner who’s never done any of these crafts before can get started.

One of the things I really liked about the program is that they show every little step so you never have to worry about getting lost or confused about what you need to do.

Our Experience Using The Makers Club

For our first handicraft using The Makers Club, we decided to make the Animal Felt Stuffies. My daughters love stuffed animals and I’ve taught them some pretty basic hand-sewing skills, so it seemed like a good first project.

Both of my girls, (8 and 12 years old) were really excited to dive into the project. My son even got interested and asked me to make him a stuffie as well.

The stuffies were simple enough that you could probably get it done in a day if you really wanted to, but we spread ours out over a few days to keep things simpler for me.

Here are our finished products:

My oldest daughter chose to make a bear for one of her good friends and my younger daughter made the llama. My son requested a dinosaur, which is his favorite animal.

The girls created theirs from templates provided from the membership. There were no dinosaur templates, so I had to improvise and make my own lol.

For everything else, we followed the directions provided in the membership and we were quite pleased with how everything turned out.

What we liked about it

We loved using The Makers Club to create these handicrafts! As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, teaching my kids how to do crafts can sometimes be frustrating for me.

Either I can’t communicate correctly how to do something or my kids get frustrated because it’s not working and then I end up doing half the work. Or I just don’t have time to sit down and show them how to do stuff over and over again.

The Makers Club really made it all go more smoothly. The kids could watch the videos as many times as they needed.

All I had to do was offer support or a little guidance, but the bulk of it they could do on their own. Overall we loved it.

Everything was done for me

One of my favorite things is that the whole planning of the project is already done ahead of time. One reason we don’t do near as many handicrafts as I would like to is because I just don’t have the time to figure it all out.

Trying to scour the internet for projects that are easy, fun, beginner-friendly, and appropriate for kids just learning how to do crafts can take forever! With The Makers Club, they’ve done all that part for you, so you can just pick one, get your supplies, and get started.

Short videos

I also really liked that all the videos were short and sweet. My kids tend to get bored or distracted with teaching videos that are too long.

Plus, they usually can’t retain all the information. The videos in The Makers Club were short, sweet, and to the point.

Templates and supply lists

I really, really liked that they offered printable versions of all the templates and supply lists. My kids were able to easily use the templates to create their patterns for the animal felt stuffies.

I really loved that they could work independently for the majority of the project.

Clear instructions

Something else that we appreciated about The Makers Club is that the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. As I mentioned, this was often an issue when I tried to teach my kids how to do handicrafts in the past.

It’s been so long since I was a beginner I wasn’t as good at breaking down the steps involved. The videos in The Makers Club did a good job of making each step simple and easy to understand.

Plus, my kids could rewatch them whenever necessary if they forgot a step or got confused with what they were doing.

Inspired lots of creativity

Last, but definitely not least, one of my favorite parts of using The Makers Club is how much creativity it inspired in my kids. After working on our felt stuffies, they started making all kinds of projects.

My daughter started using old scraps of fabric to make clothes for her dolls. I even found a dinosaur dressed up in the playroom one day.

Seeing my kids create and explore new ideas is one of my favorite things about homeschooling and I really loved how The Makers Club helped inspire that.
