Have you heard of the new LuvBug Learning app? Learn how it can help your child develop better social skills.
Sometimes I worry about this more than anything else I’m teaching my kids.
I know, I know, academics are important. My children need good math, reading, and writing skills to excel in school.
But I also really want them to be good people. I want them to care about others and know how to get along with their friends.
Social skills and emotional control are just as important in a child’s growth as learning to read and write, but often they can be a lot harder to teach.
That’s why I was so excited when I heard about LuvBug Learning. LuvBug Learning is an app that helps promote social skills and emotional development for kids through fun games and activities.
In this article, I’m going to share all the details on how LuvBug Learning can take a lot of the pressure off of teaching feelings and social skills to your kids.
Let’s get to it!
I was compensated for my time reviewing LuvBug Learning and writing this post. This post reflects my personal opinion about the information provided.
Why Teaching Feelings and Social Skills Is Important
Before we dive into how to use LuvBug Learning to teach feelings and social skills, I think it’s important to talk about why social/emotional skills are so important for kids.
Good social and emotional skills are linked to better academic performance, mental health, and overall success in life.
Being able to understand and get along well with others isn’t just nice, it’s a critical skill for kids to develop. If your child struggles to make friends, doesn’t get along with their peers, or even worse, is subject to bullying or fights, it really doesn’t matter how fast they can read or what score they got on the latest math test.
Humans are social creatures. We do best when we have community and strong bonds with others. In order to create those, we have to learn how to interact with people, how to understand their feelings, and how to express our own.
If your child is having trouble developing social/emotional skills, it can lead to a lot of problems down the road. That’s why it’s so important to start teaching these skills early on.
The Best Way to Teach Social/Emotional Skills to Kids
When it comes to teaching your child social/emotional skills (or really almost anything), the number one thing you need to do is make it fun. The more fun kids have, the more focused and engaged they are.
And when they’re focused and engaged, they’re learning. Especially with soft skills like empathy and self-awareness, which can be harder for kids to grasp.
Using games and activities that are engaging and entertaining, while also teaching kids important lessons is the best way to make sure that they’re really understanding the concepts.
This is where LuvBug Learning comes in. LuvBug Learning helps parents introduce and teach feelings and social skills to kids in a way that’s fun and easy to understand.
What is LuvBug Learning?
Luvbug Learning is an app that is designed to teach children about feelings and social skills in a fun and engaging way that best supports how kids learn.
The app is divided into two main sections: games and videos. With the games, kids can play fun and interactive games that teach them about empathy, self-awareness, emotion regulation, and other social/emotional skills.
The videos walk them through different social scenarios and teach them how to handle different emotions. There is also a parent dashboard where you can see how much your student has played, adjust parental controls, and track their progress.
How LuvBug Learning Works
Once you download Luvbug Learning, you create an account and then add your child’s profile. You can add multiple children under one family account.
Once you get your children’s accounts set up, you can let them dive into the app. LuvBug Learning is set up to allow the children to play whichever game interests them.
Periodically throughout the gameplay, your child will be prompted to answer a question that relates to social/emotional development. Once they answer the question, they’ll be taken back to the game they were playing.
So no matter what game they play, they’ll get plenty of opportunities to work on social/emotional skills.
Grade/Age Range
LuvBug Learning is designed to be used with children ages 5 and up. You could probably use it with younger children who are familiar with apps and computer games.
I started using this app with my son who is 5, but I think he would have done well with the app even at 4.
When you set up your child’s account within the app, you include their birthday so they will be assigned to the correct level. There are 5 levels:
- Level 1 (ages 5-6)
- Level 2 (ages 7-8)
- Level 3 (ages 9-10)
- Level 4 (ages 11+)
- Level 5 (adult)
Each level adjusts the difficulty of the games and learning questions asked in the game. So the questions and games are a little simpler at the lower level than they are for the higher levels.
I think this is a really nice feature because it makes the game simple enough for younger kids, but interesting and engaging enough for older kids as well.

Our Experience With LuvBug Learning
Now that we’ve covered how LuvBug Learning works, I want to share more about our personal experience with the app. In short, we love it!
As a mom, I feel good that my son isn’t just mindlessly zoning out in front of a screen. He’s getting a chance to learn and understand skills that I know are so important for him in the long run.
My son is one of those kids where empathy doesn’t come naturally and we’ve struggled with teaching him the importance of honesty. Being able to set him up with games that he finds fun while also working on areas of character development that I know he needs is just a huge relief for me as a parent.
What we liked about LuvBug Learning
Beyond knowing that he’s making way better use of his screen time than usual, here are a few specific things that we liked about LuvBug Learning.
No ads
I kind of hate that my son learned how to skip ads on the phone at 3 year olds, but it’s the world we live in. I love that there are no ads with LuvBug Learning.
He can stay immersed in the game and focused on learning important skills without getting distracted by ads. Especially when you can’t control the ads that come up during games and sometimes they are totally inappropriate.
Clear and colorful graphics
LuvBug Learning has gone above and beyond with its graphics. You can tell that this is one area of the app where they didn’t cut any corners.
The graphics are beautiful and engaging, so my son is always eager to get on and play.
Age appropriate
I really like how they offer different levels for different ages. Not only are the games adjusted by age level, but so are the learning questions.
That means that the questions were understandable and relatable for my son. I also don’t have to worry about him being exposed to certain ideas or concepts I don’t feel he’s ready for.
Parental controls
The parental controls are everything you could hope for in an app. You can control which videos they can watch, how long they can play each day, and plenty more.
Plus, you can customize the settings for each child individually which is really convenient.
Lots of options for gameplay
I love how many different ways you can play around in LuvBug Learning. They have so many different themes for their games that your child will likely never get bored.
Plus, they add new videos and games constantly so your child can always be learning something new.
Learning videos
Probably my favorite feature of the LuvBug Learning app is its learning videos. Each video covers a different topic or social/emotional skill.
They explain it in simple and easy-to-understand scenes that really help your children understand the topic. I also like that it’s explained from the point of view of just 2 friends talking.
There is no guilt, judgment, or shame as the friends discuss the topic. Something that I know can often be missing when we, as parents, try to teach the same lessons to our kids.
Check out a sample of their learning videos below!
Who would LuvBug Learning be a good fit for?
Here is who I think would get the most out of LuvBug Learning:
- Parents of kids 5-11. I think the videos would be great for kids younger than 5, but the games might be a little tricky. I think kids much older than 11 might find the game a little too cutesy.
- Parents who want to be intentional with their child’s screen time. LuvBug Learning has done a good job combining the fun of playing games with learning important life skills.
- Parents who want to help their kids develop social/emotional skills. LuvBug teaches kids valuable social and emotional skills that are so important but often overlooked.
- Kids who are struggling with any of the following areas: honesty, empathy, bullying, kindness, sharing, gratitude, or being polite.
